Lesaffre Human Care, announces the North American launch of ibSium®, its unique ingredient for managing GI discomfort.
“The North American launch is an important landmark in this very busy year for Lesaffre Human Care”, said Sandrine Cuisenier, Global Marketing Manager for Lesaffre Human Care, supplier of quality ingredients from yeast and bacteria fermentation for the global human care markets. “ibSium may be used in any product intended to support digestive health, including dietary supplements and functional foods, and we expect it to have significant market impact.”
ibSium is a product containing an exclusive and patented strain of Saccharomyces cerevisiae, selected by Lesaffre from thousands of proprietary strains, and is registered with the French National Collection of Microorganism Cultures as CNCM I¬3856**.
Clinical studies’ results of ibSium
Clinical studies on the ingredient, in a total of 600 volunteers, have demonstrated that ibSium may be considered a safe and effective strategy for improving the quality of life for people suffering from digestive and abdominal discomfort. Findings of one of the studies were published in the peer-reviewed journal Digestive and Liver Disease earlier this year; and conclusions of another trials were recently accepted for publication in the renown United European Gastroenterology Journal. Based on these findings, Health Canada also granted Lesaffre approval to use the claim that ibSium “helps to reduce abdominal pain and discomfort associated with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)”. Additionally, a recent consumer study, implemented in collaboration with prescribing physicians in over 1160 volunteers, showed a significant reduction in intestinal discomfort and bloating.
“We see great opportunities in the North American market, and are very pleased to introduce this distinct ingredient, backed by the scientific community,” said Cuisenier. “In addition to a proven product, we also provide our customers with a complete and customizable toolbox and comprehensive support from Lesaffre Human Care’s team.”
This year, Lesaffre Human Care worked to strengthen the brand image of the product through a new name and brand identity. The ingredient formerly known on the market as Lynside® Pro GI+ was rebranded as ibSium® and the new logo rolled out at Vitafoods Europe in May.
ibSium is offered in small spherical granules and may be used individually or in combination with other ingredients. It is available in a variety of packaging options, from bulk ingredient to ready-to-market capsules pre-packaged in blister packs.
